PV wholesale in India witnessed a 12.73% increase to 285,367 units in November, according to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM). The wholesale figure was at 253,139 units in the corresponding month of the previous year.
Experts pointed out that the 42-day long festive period and new launches and higher traction for compact SUVs helped in driving the demand in this segment.
According to the latest data, two-wheeler sales were also up 13.43% in November to 1,600,379 units compared with 1,410,939 units in the same month last year.Motorcycle sales were at 1,026,705 units, against 893,538 units in July 2019, up 14.9%. "The two-wheeler segment witnessed a shift from 100cc to 125cc and above category due to good rural cash flows, Dhanteras-Diwali festive period and marriage season," brokerage firm Nirmal Bang said in its report.
Scooter sales saw 9.29% growth at 502,561 units, compared with 459,851 units in the year-ago month.
Three-wheeler sales, however, continued to remain the worst-affected segment with sales declining by 57.64% to 23,626 units last month. Growing preference for safer means of transport and financing issues and drastic fall in the last-mile transport requirements with the closure of offices, schools and other public places continued to affect the demand for this segment.
During the month under review, vehicle sales across categories registered a rise of 11.02% to 1,909,372 units from 1,719,874 units in November 2019.
